Dear friends,

On this Solemnity, the Liturgy invites us to praise God not merely for the wonders that He has worked, but for who He is; for the beauty and goodness of His being, from which His action stems. We are invited to contemplate, so to speak, the Heart of God, His deepest reality – which is His being One in the Trinity, a supreme and profound communion of love and life‘ (Pope Benedict XVI).

Our celebration of Trinity Sunday this weekend begins with the 6pm Vigil Mass on Saturday, at which – in Fr Richard’s absence – our guest celebrant will be the Vicar of our sister parish of St Alphage, Burnt Oak (Fr Luke Demetri): please acknowledge Fr Luke’s kindness to our parish in supporting us in this way, by turning out to greet him at Saturday’s Vigil Mass. (Please note also that, on Saturday, there will therefore be no public Evening Prayer, or Confessions.)

This weekend is also the final opportunity to contribute to this month’s appeal in aid of Mary’s Meals: any final donations can be made in cash, in church – or online, using this link: thank you for your generosity.

What a truly wonderful time we had last weekend at our May Devotion: thank you to all whose hard work made the occasion such a resounding success – especially those who assisted in advance or on the day, and/or who donated food for the party or sponsored our musicians. A recording of the liturgy here at St Mary’s (including Bishop Jonathan’s homily) can be viewed online here; and we are grateful to Fr Mike and to Renu for their fantastic photographs of the day, here and here. Next year’s May Devotion will take place on Saturday, 22 May 2027 – at which our guest preacher will be the Archbishop of Westminster, the Most Rev’d Richard Moth.

And please note, finally, that there will be a short meeting after Mass on Sunday, 7 June, to begin planning the parish barbecue (on Saturday, 18 July).

Since we are children of God, God has sent into our hearts the Spirit of His Son, who cries out, Abba, Father!

Fr Richard
