Dear friends,
We begin this week’s mailing with congratulations – to Johnette and Ken, elected last week as our churchwardens, and to Lizz, Robbie and Veron, newly elected to the PCC. We also extend hearty thanks for their service to retiring PCC members Beauty, Carmin, Gloria and Joanna – as well as to all those continuing in post! We likewise congratulate our pastoral assistant Ryan, who – following his recent Stage Two discernment panel – has been recommended to begin ordination training in 2026. Ryan remains on placement with us until the end of July.
In this Sunday’s Gospel reading, Jesus explains that the most persuasive witness to our Christian faith is our love for one another: although the Christian faith is rich in mystery, yet at its heart it is very simple – to live by love, for God and for our neighbour.
There are now just three seats remaining on the coach to The Friars, Aylesford on Saturday, 21 June: please sign up swiftly and, if you have signed up, please now also give payment to Fr Richard (£20/adults; £5/under-18s). We will be sharing this trip with our friends from All Saints, Kenton – and we will spend the day in the peace and quiet of the beautiful surroundings of this thirteenth-century Carmelite priory.
Please note that there will be no public Evening Prayer or Confessions this weekend on Saturday.
Unfortunately, the planned Youth Group outing to FlipOut (Watford) on Saturday, 24 May has been postponed to the New Year. Our young people will instead participate in the Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage this summer, and then visit the Prehistoric Planet: Discovering Dinosaurs light show on Saturday, 25 October.
After Mass on Sunday, 25 May there will be a short planning meeting for our parish summer barbecue, provisionally scheduled for Saturday, 19 July. Do come along to say how you can help, whether with setting up and clearing away; food preparation and cooking, or publicity and ticket sales, inter alia…
Please also find attached a poster for a fundraising concert at St Andrew, Kingsbury, on Saturday, 24 May at 7pm (tickets £10, on the door).
Have a blessed week!
Fr Richard
